I last practiced pottery in 1996-1998, so starting back at zero in 2023 has been a fun challenge. Celebrating the creation of even "less than perfect" (way less!) has been the best part!
A pressed slab grape vine leaf spoon rest was the first project my wheel throwing class made. It was moulded on a ceramic bowl and I added small feet to the bottom, glazed in a light green.
The first throws on the wheel are no doubt, UGLY... but oh so cute too! Thick, heavy, bumpy.... but each one shows a shadow of improved skill. Which frankly, isn't even the point of being back in the studio.

She was right! My tubes of paint are still as functional 25 years later, as are my brushes. I've used them off and on over the years, but 2023 has been their year to make a come-back!
Exploring how style, paint, color, technique, etc all come together is interesting. Finding the elements that I like, and how I'd change something else is ok. I can still be happy with the finished product, even though I don't like everything about it. (Like life. Right?)
Ladies, check yourself and remind your friends. If you are 40+, get your yearly mammogram.
Acquired in 2022, I'm working on fully restoring this machine's functionality. She's so darling, and I love thinking about the projects she has seen.
Can I make a fancy tutu? NO. But, adjusting straps, snaps, hooks, sparkles, beads - Yes please!
Flowers, glue, and a mix of medias are used to make fun headpieces. Mostly for my own girls, but I have made headpieces for their friends, and others in the ballet community.
